Student Representative
Position Description
The ENVS student representative has two main functions. The first is to attend ENVS program meetings and represent student interests and perspectives. The student rep would be a full participant in meeting discussions. The student representative would not have an official vote, although most decisions do not require voting. The second function of the representative is to bring information from the meetings back to his or her fellow students. The student representative typically will be chosen at the start of the fall semester and will serve for the entire academic year.
Eligibility
To be eligible you must have been in the program at least one year and your schedule must allow you to attend meetings. Meetings are approximately once a month and the days/times are determined based on faculty schedules each semester.
Selection Process
1. Early in the Fall semester, we will send out an email requesting candidates for the Student Rep position. If you are interested in being a candidate, you will be asked to email a short (one paragraph) candidate statement (in the body of the email) to Courtney in the ENVS Office. Courtney will then compile all the candidate statements and send them out to all majors.
2. Soon after, there will be a majors’ meeting at which candidates will have two minutes each to make a statement.
3. Email voting will begin after the meeting. All majors will receive a ballot via email and have about a week to respond. The top vote getter will be the student representative, and the runner-up will be an alternate in case the representative can not make a meeting.
